"I love history and I am always looking for ways to make history come alive for my children. That is why I was so delighted -- no, awestruck is a better word -- when I opened the package containing HISTORY Through The Ages Timeline Figures! After thirty minutes of admiring these works of art, I decided I must call the publisher and find out where she got these detailed images. Imagine my surprise when I was told that the publisher is also the artist who has drawn all the figures in this series! I'm so thankful that homeschool mom, Amy Pak, decided to share her love of history and her gift of drawing with the rest of us. I've shown these figures to lots of homeschool moms and the reaction is always the same - "Wow!"

...I can't say enough good things about these figures -- I have found them to be one of my "must have" resources and I highly recommend them!"

"Home School in the Woods meets a longtime need with quality, affordably priced timeline figures featuring detailed, superior illustrations... Unlike other timeline figures designed for curricula that do not cover history chronologically, these figures can easily be used with any curriculum package since they are chronological instead of unit-oriented."

"I have long been interested in doing history timelines with my children, but there are a variety of ways of going about it. I wanted creative and well-drawn interesting timeline figures with brief summaries of the person, place, or event we were studying. I wanted a guideline that would help me in this placement so I knew I was not totally off the mark. I wanted a beautiful book that we could use for many years that we could refer back to again and again. I wanted versatility for many ages, and I wanted it to be worth the money. Money does not come easy to most homeschool families - is this a resource that has staying power? I believe Amy Pak's HISTORY Through the Ages timeline resources have succeeded in providing all of these things and much more!

Once you open the HISTORY Through the Ages Timeline Figures, you will see that you have far more than 1,260 black and white figures on two CDs. You have a veritable library of information at your fingertips to use with all ages. All the figures are re-sizable for those younger children keeping history notebooks that may not yet be doing timelines! That means you have 1,260 coloring pages of all the same topics you are studying with your older children! This is exactly what I have been looking for.

Not only are the figures organized in chronological order, but they are also organized alphabetically as well as classified by group. For example, you can find images for Ancient China, Ancient Wonders of the World, Authors/Literary Works, New and Old Testament, Civil Acts & Activists, Wars/Conflicts/Acts of Aggression, Scientists/Inventors/Mathematicians, Religious Figures & Events, and many many more. Anything you are trying to locate can be easily found on these CDs.

Many of you will want to know how the figures are dated so I am going to quote the author:

'Bear this in mind when considering the earliest dates: We at Home School in the Woods believe in a young earth, with a literal 7-days of Creation. The problem we've encountered with older dates and existing texts and curricula is that just about everything in publication has been dated according to the Historical Records. These are found both in the early Egyptian and Sumerian history. According to the Egyptian calendar, our oldest dates can be off by as much as several hundred to 1000 years, placing Creation to c. 4000 BC, and the flood more in the vicinity of c. 2400-2300 BC. However, this throws the remaining early dates in a tailspin when it comes to almost everything in print out there! Within history texts and curricula, the Egyptian calendar dating is widely used.
When it comes to the most ancient of dates, especially those pertaining to the period of Creation through the time of Egypt, bear in mind the unreliability of exact dates. As mentioned throughout this resource, should your research and findings lead you to place a figure at a different location, by all means do so! As you proceed beyond these dates, they will eventually line up and have records that back them accurately. However, the further back we go, the less apt we all are to find accurate dates without having been there or knowing the trustworthiness of the source and authors of the historical data; the very data that is used to write the history books and texts available. With the knowledge that earlier dates are based on the Egyptian calendar, we have designed our resource to align with respected Christian curriculum providers.'

...The HISTORY Through the Ages Record of Time is a beautiful well-built hardback binder that will house your lengthy timeline. Starting at 5,000 B.C., and ending with 2,025 A.D., the cream-colored cardstock paper is made to hold up for many years and lots of timeline figures! The older sections have large periods of time between them. For example, 5,000 B.C. to 4,000 B.C., has 1,000 years between them from one page to the next. The later years have much less time between them. For example, 900 B.C. only has 100 years between that page and the next, 800 B.C. Further into the Record of Time from one page to the next you will sometimes find only ten years. I am really grateful for this space as there are will be more people and events that we wish to note.

At the end of the Record of Time you will find seventeen classically drawn old and modern world maps. Ancient China, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, South America, Central America, United States, World, etc. are all here.

The HISTORY Through the Ages Suggested Placement Guide is exactly what it says it is. It is an immense help for those of you wondering just where certain things should be placed. Do we place George Washington on his birthday or during the Revolutionary War or when he became our President? Some events have specific dates (Pearl Harbor) and other events (Civil War) span some time. Should that go at the beginning or the end? The guide helps you with these types of questions as well as offers you a page by page picture of what your timeline *can* look like. Of course we will not all choose the exact same figures as there are just so many tantalizing ones to choose from, but we can see what it should look like and follow suit.

Upon first examination the price may seem high to some of you. However, it is my opinion that it is so useful, for so many years of homeschooling, for every age of child, that this cost is absolutely worth it in every respect. As the Product Reviews Manager, I have both seen and used a *lot* of history resources. If I had to choose just one resource to add to our curriculum, without a doubt it would be this one. I had no real idea what was contained in this product until examining it myself. I am not at all easily impressed, and this product has completely blown my expectations out of the water. It is so much more than I thought it was and has so much to offer every homeschool family. This is highly recommended!

"Just received the History Through the Ages (CD), yesterday. It is fantastic! I must say that you thought of everything. I no longer have to search the internet for hours trying to find a figure to go with whatever we are studying. I can do a timeline with my older son and do coloring pages with my younger one. I can also do lapbooks with both of them. I can let my older one write his own summary with the figures and print out the figures with the summary for my younger one. I just wanted to thank you for all your efforts, all your sleepless nights, and all the time you had to be away from your family to make this possible.

PS- Thank you also for the quality of the cds and the casing. It truly makes a difference." Sumi

"You have done an awesome job.  Great way to use the talent that God has given you!"      Susan

"I received the timeline packet yesterday and we are thrilled. It is great! You put in a lot of work and we are anxious to have hours of learning fun with this tool. Thank you and I will definitely watch for future issues."   Laura

"I just opened my Creation to Christ figures. Awesome is the first word that comes to mind and even that doesn't come close. These figures work GREAT with the Beautiful Feet History through Literature course. It is almost as if you set these figures up specifically for that purpose. (Also works great with Streams of Civilization from Christian Liberty Press.) Thanks so much for making this home school mom's day a whole lot easier!!!!!!! Let me know as other sets become available. They are their own little history course in themselves." Jill

"Yay!! Yippee!!! Hallelujah!! Oh Happy Day!!! This is EXACTLY what I had in mind.... Thank you so much!! You have provided a long-overdue service to the homeschooling world and I will put the word out on all my homeschool email lists."     Kate

"Wow, this looks great! I'm going to use this with The Book of the Centuries notebook timeline. The sizes of the figures are perfect. You might want to mention that in your ad."     Jill

"Thanks for being so thoughtful about family reproducibles.  That makes such sense for homeschooling families!"  Tara

Hi! I just want to thank you for the Time Travelers History study. I have been homeschooling 10 years and used everything except a packaged curriculum - and by far this is the most fun we have had! My 9 year old is loving this!!!! I love that all the instruction are there and I don't have to come up I with the ideas on my own. Honestly I don't know if I could come up with all of these good ideas anyway! We have done other lapbooks ... but this is so much MORE. I hope you will be producing more of these and SOON. Thanks for a great way to start off this school year...only what will I come up with next to measure up this this??????? Thanks, Melody Pipkin

"OK, here it is. As far as I’m concerned, this product rates number one out of every homeschooling related product out there! Amy Pak’s timeline figures are outstanding and are absolutely the best! No more wasting time looking for pictures all over the web. No more worrying about dates, correct spellings, chronological order or any of that as it is all done for you in these versatile and economical timeline figure sets.

General Information
Amy Pak is a homeschooling mom with a wonderful artistic talent. She shares her talent with us through the creation of over 1,000 figures for use in timelines, books of time, games and more. Each figure is wonderfully detailed, well drawn and includes a great deal of detail. Below each person, event or item of interest in history is the figure’s: title, date and description. The descriptions provide a good amount of information related to the figure. For example, in the “Creation to Christ” set of figures you will find one with a hand writing the words “Mene Mene Tekel Upharshin” upon the wall. Below it the title reads, “Belshazzar and the Fall of Babylon”. The date is 539 BC and the text begins with, “A descendant of Nebuchadnezzar and last king of Babylon, he drank from goblets stolen from Solomon’s temple. . .” The description continues to discuss the warning from the writing on the wall and the prophesied demise of Belshazzar and Babylon. Other figures include people such as Aesop and Pythagoras as well as events such as Judah’s Captivity by Babylon (each stage) and the Battle of Granicus. To see samples of her talent for yourself, please visit her site at: www.homeschoolinthewoods.com.
So many wonderful figures are included in each set! Three of the sets contain over 250 to over 280 figures and the “American History” set includes over 420! They are all printed on heavy card stock making them wonderful to color in (preferably with a good set of colored pencils). In addition, Amy has provided reproduction rights WITHIN the family. (I stress ‘within’ because I feel it is important that we remind ourselves to honor reproduction rights. In the homeschooling market so much is created by hard working homeschooling parents that deserve their reward. I Timothy 5:18 reads, “For the Scripture says, "You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain,"[5:18 Deuteronomy 25:4] and, "The laborer is worthy of his wages."[ Luke 10:7].” (NKJV) OK, I’ve said my peace. )

Packet Contents
There are four sets, or packets, of figures available with each packet being organized chronologically by time period. Creation to Christ includes Creation at circa 5000 BC to Matthew, Philip, Simon and Thomas in first century AD. Resurrection to Revolution takes you from John, Paul, Vespasian, Pentecost and Stephen in the first thirty-some years of AD to the American and French revolution in the later 1700’s. Napoleon to Now focuses on World History from the Ottoman Empire, Johann Sebastian Bach and James Watt to Operation Iraqi Freedom beginning in March of 2003. Explorers to 21st Century is the largest packet including over 420 figures focusing on American History. These begin with Leif Eriksson, the Magna Charta and the Iroquois League to the Terrorist Attack on the World Trade Center and Pentagon.
Each packet includes color coded timeline strips so that your figures may be displayed on a wall or other display board. There are also tips included on how and where to make timelines in your home. In addition, you will receive a Figure List that includes the Title of each figure followed by the dates. These are all listed in chronological order and include a number to the left in parenthesis. This number refers to the numbered sheet the figure is found on. I have found the chronological indexed list to be helpful in many different ways.

Use at Home and Other Ideas
One of each set of figures can be used for an entire family since Amy has graciously provided the copyrights for reproduction within the family. You could keep your primary set and make reduced sized copies (especially for timeline books) or make copies on adhesive paper or whatever you choose. Or, you could get a set for each child to color in and cut out. You may find that there is so much you want to do with these figures that you may want to get an extra set! I do recommend keeping a master set in case the child messes up a picture and wants to redo it. Color, cut, copy, enlarge, reduce. Books, games, memory cards, timelines. So many options, so little time!
When you visit the website for History Through the Ages timeline figures (www.homeschoolinthewoods.com) don’t miss the link on the left side for “Timeline Helps.” Here you will find a long page with loads of great ideas on how to make a timeline and how to use her figures in various ways. Build your timeline on the wall or make a foldable timeline or put the figures in a timeline book. There are several ways to do this that can fit families with different preferences and needs. Keep scrolling down this page or you’ll miss her great ideas on how to use the figures for memory cards or in various games you can make on your own. There are even tips on what to do and what not to do in coloring them in.
Another note on her website. There is even more here than all the information on the figures, packets and all the tips for using them. You will also find free unit studies on various topics such as the Iditarod, Civil War and Argentina as well as an extensive list of web sites that may be of interest in various areas of study.

Who Can Use These?
Everyone! Seriously, I do not take it lightly to say that a product is simply wonderful and leave it at that. Many times, a product can be great for some and not so great for others. We all are created uniquely and we work and learn in very different ways. However, this is one of the most versatile set of products. They are affordably priced and provide such great quality. In addition, each set can be reproduced for use in many different ways, for years of learning. Because of the many ways these timeline figures can be used to enhance studies and because of the value and quality, I recommend them to pretty much everyone! The only exceptions I can think of would be for those who just don’t want it all done and want to draw figures on their own or prefer to download figures off the web (certainly doable, yet time consuming). I understand many of us are limited on budgets and may not be able to afford the sets. They are, however, something I consider to be very worth the money if feasible.
From what I understand, Sonlight has also fallen in love with the quality of these figures and will be offering them repackaged to fit their needs. These would be on adhesive cardstock and sold in sets that match the different Sonlight levels rather than what is available on Amy’s site. Several other curricula publishers and authors have also commented as to how they will work wonderfully with their curriculum such as Mystery of History, Diana Waring’s History Alive! and Heart of Wisdom. Even if you are not doing history chronologically, there are so many figures available between all the sets and they are all indexed so well that you could easily locate what you need as you study that time, event or person (if you had all four complete sets). All four sets could last your career of homeschooling if you chose to make copies for each use. So, you see, you can really use these with any study in History, Science, Bible and more.

Personal Notes
Dates of Creation: As you may have noticed above, Creation is listed as circa (about) 5000 BC. It is obvious from this dating as well as others that the figures adhere to not only a Creation view of origins, but a six day view of Creation. I wholeheartedly agree and believe the Bible is pretty clear on this and therefore was relieved to see that the figures followed this timeline as well. If you have questions about the dates of Creation and how we can know, I suggest doing some research at the Answers In Genesis website (www.answersingenesis.org) or the Institute for Creation Research (www.icr.org). There are several online documents as well as other resources available regarding the six day creation viewpoint. In addition, you may check out from us the Audio Tapes for “Back to Genesis” from Vision Forum or “Evolution of a Creationist” by Dr. Jobe Martin. (Click Here for the Book Online) All are excellent resources.
It is apparent that Amy is a believer in Christ and studies history with an understanding of events recorded in the Bible integrated with the timing of events and people recorded only elsewhere in history. For example, you will see that the rise of Athens and Sparta takes place during the reign of Sennacherib and the time of Manasseh, Nahum and King Josiah. I love this! Why didn’t I learn this way growing up? Well, I sure am glad I am learning it now with my children!
Bottom line.
These figures are such a valuable resource and I hope that many of you will support Mrs. Amy Pak in her endeavors. See the quality for yourself by looking at the samples on her web page or checking out sample packets from the library.
Thank you Amy for creating these and sharing your talent with us."

"When teaching our children about history, we all want them to understand and embrace it as it relates to their life. I have struggled in the past to bring history to life and give my children a sense of when one event occurred in relation to other events...It is one of my educational goals for my children to give them a better understanding of those eras and how they relate to each other. Enter HISTORY Through the Ages Timelines! ...Our family is currently doing a chronological unit study and have covered history from Egypt through the early Explorers. We are using the America's History timeline set and love it! The timeline works so well with our unit study as most of the people and events we study are covered in the timeline. We have displayed the timeline on our wall and have reproduced, enlarged and colored the figures of the events and people to use with our display. The timeline makes a great visual aid and helps put historical events in their proper order. My children love to put faces with names, so the pictures of the people are great for these associations. We refer to it often when speaking about eras and people of the past. I'm only sorry that I didn't know of these timeline sets earlier. I would have loved to have used them with our earlier unit studies. I will certainly order the upcoming "Napoleon to Now" when it becomes available.
If you are interested in ordering a timeline, please contact Amy Pak... You'll not regret the decision!
